Only a small portion of homes in Key West are available for nightly or weekly rental because of strict transient rental ordinances enforced by the City of Key West. These transient rental ordinances require that a home has a transient rental license in order to rent nightly or weekly. Any home without a transient rental license may only rent for a minimum of 30 days. Although monthly rental homes are also a great way to achieve rental income, the return on investment for a Key West transient rental home will be approximately 2.5 times that of a non-transient rental home. For those interested in purchasing a home to be used for vacation rental, we highly recommend focusing on homes for sale with transient rental licenses. Although in limited cases transient rentals can be purchased, the majority of transient licenses are attached to specific homes and can only be obtained by purchasing the home.
